Massage Therapy

As a young competitive athlete, I was always training. I needed excellent balance, endurance and strength. I was hard on my body and felt like Sunnybrook Emergency knew me by name with all my sprains and strains. My father who managed quite well with a chronic low back condition thanks to his chiropractor, took me to his clinic.

The chiropractor watched me walk and assessed my joint range of motion and told me I had one leg longer then the other and my body was imbalanced because of it. After his treatment plan ended I noticed I was much less accident prone and was feeling at the top of my game.

I moved to Whistler B.C to snowboard competitively and did not think about my body for a few years. I ended up sustaining a major injury and was in an orthopedic hospital for three weeks. Knowing I may need help with my recovery I went to see a Chiropractor who reminded me that my body needed to be balanced and treated well.

I returned to Toronto to study Kinesiology and worked as a personal trainer in the university gym. I knew I wanted to be in health care so I started working in clinics all over the city. I gained insight to how the health care system worked and it became apparent to me that a traditional family practice was not for me. Treating a symptom seemed like a band-aid solution to the real question of “why do you feel that way”.

Working alongside a chiropractor and a physiotherapist as a personal trainer I observed the diagnostic abilities that a chiropractor has and saw the role as a ‘detective of wellness’ as such. Someone who looks for the answer to ‘why is this person not functioning at their finest’.

I applied to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College and after four long years and two inner city clinic internships, I graduated in 2013 as a Chiropractor. One who wants to see how your body moves, ask a detailed history, explain how your body functions and what is not functioning well in order to help you reach your peak potential.

I use a variety of techniques in my practice and I am certified in Acupuncture by the Acupuncture Council of Ontario and the Webster technique by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association. I have completed courses in Active release therapy (ART) , Neurokinetic therapy (NKT) and OTZ.

I am passionate about health, nutrition and exercise. I love biking and hiking with my husband, young kids and our dog and I am happy to live here where I can be close to these things.

Robyn has been providing registered massage therapy for over 10 years in the Durham area. Living a healthy lifestyle is the foundation of everything she does, both professionally and personally. Growing up playing sports and camping with her family, she recognized the value of being active and embracing nature. That later guided her to massage therapy.

Robyn loves what she does which translates to the care she provides. She carefully caters each massage to the individual and the overall goals of the treatment. Getting to the root of the problem and treating the cause rather than the symptoms is what she strives to do with her patients. Over the years she has learned how to balance therapeutic treatment techniques with relaxation, allowing for the important work to be done while still enjoying the soothing effects of massage therapy. Robyn’s experience and knowledge will provide you with the comfort and care your body needs.

Robyn has an advanced diploma in massage therapy from Centennial College and is also trained in kinesiology taping. Being a very active person allows Robyn to provide consistent, quality care. Encouraging patients to take responsibility for their health and provide them with the appropriate tools to do so is an important aspect to her practice.

When she’s not at the clinic you can find her working out, hiking with her dogs, reading, portaging, embracing the elements with extreme sports or just sitting in the woods enjoying the peace and quiet. Life is all about balance.

As a 9 year old, it was clear to me that chiropractic was my calling! There was something so positive and energetic about being at my chiropractors office and I always seemed to feel healthier when I left.

My first chiropractic visit was booked because I was experiencing some low back pain that had come on during a soccer game when I was 8 years old. My dad had been a long-time patient of chiropractic and had been told that it could help me through my injury. On the way home from my initial examination, I said, “Mom, I want to be a chiropractor”. At my second visit, my mom was sure to inform my chiropractor of my new career path and a life changing mentoring relationship began.

Even as a child, I spent hours shadowing my chiropractor in her office. She would let me be there to volunteer my time and she even began to introduce me to her patients as “Dr. Keber” right from the very beginning! She would use large scientific words describing neurology, anatomy and physiology as she treated her patients and I would nod as if I understood. Truthfully, I had no idea what she was talking about, but I just enjoyed watching her teach and inspire others to choose health as a way of life through chiropractic care. As a child, chiropractic was magic to me because it naturally unlocked the healing power of the body. It still amazes me to watch what the human body is capable of when we remove the stress that interferes with the body’s natural tendency towards health! It was an amazing feeling when, within my first year of practice, one of my patients mentioned that her son had told her that he was interested in becoming a Chiropractor as well! I had come full circle!

My Philosophy…

Chiropractic is a form of health care based on the study of the nervous system and its role in sustaining health. Our primary concern is evaluating interference to the nervous system and eliminating it to ensure normal healthy function and life. Interference to this very intelligent system can be caused by any stress in our lives; physical traumas, bumps or tumbles, chemical and nutritional imbalances, and emotional stress. The nervous system consists of your brain, spinal cord, spinal nerves and peripheral nerves that lead to every system, organ, tissue and cell of your body. Your nervous system is so important that it monitors every other system in your body, detects your changing needs and then controls and coordinates every response necessary for proper adaptation, learning, development and survival.

Quite simply, chiropractic care involves detection, analysis and removal of interference to the nervous system through the application of specific chiropractic adjustments. By progressively freeing your nervous system of interference, chiropractic adjustments aid to correct function, eliminate symptoms and your restore your natural healing capabilities for increased function, energy and vitality.

In my office, I use a combination of touch, technology and orthopedics to determine how chiropractic can best help to restore proper function and remove the stress from your nervous system. It is safe and effective for the whole family. Each and every patient is given a unique treatment plan, tailored to their specific health needs. I have a real passion for providing care for the entire family and have geared my continuing education to be more family-focused, offering specialized care for preconception and fertility, pregnancy, pediatrics, postnatal, for the teenage years and beyond! I love seeing 4 generations under care! I am a Certified Webster Technique Provider, a graduate of the Medical Acupuncture Course at McMaster University (Extended Fundamental Level), Certified Kinesio Tape Provider, Certified Graston Technique Provider (M2 Advanced Level) and Certified in Activator Methods Chiropractic Technique (Basic Level 1). I am also excited to offer sports injury management and rehabilitation in my practice, to keep my active patients functioning at their very best!

After graduating from the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College in 2006, I began my practice in Newmarket, Ontario as an Associate Chiropractor in a busy multidisciplinary clinic with a sports injury focus. In 2010, I chose to open Peak Health and Wellness in Brooklin, a fabulous, family-friendly home to set up our permanent roots closer to our family and friends. In our spare time, you will find Paul, Birch and I outdoors, enjoying downhill and cross country skiing, at the cabin, boating, running and even the odd golf game. My weekly chiropractic adjustments keep me at my very best, have definitely won me a few longest drive competitions, and continue to allow me to live an active mom-on-the-go lifestyle, free of pain and free of nervous system interference!

Enough about me! How can I help you and your family improve your health with natural chiropractic care?

Give Peak a call so that my team at PEAK can help you take YOUR health to new heights!

Some people know from the onset which career path they will choose. For others, it may take a while to figure it out. I knew I wanted to help people but I wasn’t sure in which capacity. My decision to become a Massage Therapist was greatly influenced by my brother, a Chiropractor and my sister-in-law, an RMT. Their enthusiasm for their chosen professions was contagious. In 1996, I began my journey towards becoming an RMT. At Sutherland-Chan School and Teaching Clinic I met wonderful instructors who shared their knowledge and expertise. I hope I am able to continue to help improve the lives of others for many more years to come. I have enjoyed meeting people from different walks of life and hearing about their struggles and triumphs. Massage Therapy has been a rewarding career choice for me. Aside from my job, I enjoy spending time with my husband and twin daughters at my family’s cottage in the Haliburton Highlands. I also enjoy running, downhill skiing and reading.
